Questions parents ask first

Straight answers about how ApexGraf runs AMC 8 prep. For the full walkthrough, see How it works.

Will I still be stuck deciding what my child should practice tonight?

No. ApexGraf assigns each week for you: the focus topic, about how long it takes, a short timed practice, and what comes next.

You choose the contest and how many weeks you have. We run the weekly plan — so prep does not depend on you inventing tonight’s practice from a pile of topics. See a sample week on Home or more detail for parents on How it works.

How is this different from apps full of practice questions?

A question bank gives your child problems. You still have to decide what to practice and whether the mix is actually preparing them for contest day.

ApexGraf makes those decisions for you. It chooses what to work on, teaches ideas that are missing, brings weak areas back later, and gradually adds timed practice and mock contests. How we teach is on Home; the full picture is on How it works.

Who is ApexGraf for?

Grade 6–8 students preparing for AMC 8.

ApexGraf is contest prep — not a school-year homework program or a stand-in for regular classroom pacing. The problems and weekly path run ahead of default school math, because the goal is contest readiness, not finishing tonight’s worksheet.

Kids do best when grade-level foundations are already in place. When a contest idea is missing, we teach it — but ApexGraf isn’t built as remedial school-math catch-up.

Does every child follow the same AMC 8 program?

The path covers the same core contest math, but not in the same order or with the same emphasis. ApexGraf puts more time into the topics and practice your child needs most. See how the topics line up on How it works.

How much does ApexGraf cost?

See current membership pricing on Pricing.

How to choose — 6, 10, 18, or 26 weeks?

Those lengths are the focused contest plan inside your annual membership — not separate products. Details and what’s included: Pricing. How a week of prep runs: How it works.

How much time does my child need each week?

On the usual 10-week plan, expect about two to three hours a week — a few practice sessions plus a short timed set. The 6-week plan is denser because the contest is closer. Compare the lengths on How it works.

If they fall behind, we suggest optional catch-up on weak areas — not longer homework every night by default.

What happens when my child gets something wrong?

We don’t treat every wrong answer the same way. A careless slip may just need another try. If the student fell for a common trap, we explain it quickly. If an idea is genuinely missing, we teach it, give a little focused practice, and then check it again on a new problem without help. More on how a week of prep works on How it works.

What is ApexCoach?

ApexCoach is ApexGraf’s flagship feature — what makes the program different when a student is stuck on a hard contest problem. It is help on the hard problem itself. When a student gets stuck, it can simplify the wording, start where they got stuck, break the reasoning into smaller steps, teach key ideas along the way, and check understanding — and then let the student finish the problem.

ApexCoach helps while the student is still working on the same hard problem. After a wrong answer elsewhere in ApexGraf, we may instead teach the missing idea and later check it on a new problem. One helps the student get unstuck; the other checks whether they actually learned the idea. Walkthrough on How it works; overview on Home.

Is this an AI chatbot that invents math answers?

No. Your child works on ApexGraf problems, explanations, examples, and practice that have already been reviewed. ApexCoach uses AI to decide what kind of help the student needs and where to start, rather than making up new math on the spot.

The AI helps choose the help. ApexGraf’s reviewed content does the teaching.

Can my child choose topics freely?

No — and that is one of ApexGraf’s strengths. Most practice apps leave kids to pick topics themselves. Without clear direction, they bounce around, progress stalls, and parents get frustrated when the results they expected never show up.

ApexGraf decides what comes next from what they already know, what still needs work, and how close the contest is — so each week builds on the last instead of starting over. Your child does the work; we keep the plan pointed at contest day. How a week gets assigned is on Home.

What will I see as a parent?

A clear update that answers three things:

  1. Where things stand — what still needs a pass, and what’s holding up.
  2. What ApexGraf is already doing next.
  3. Progress we can see — including timed mocks when they exist.

You’ll also see a compact line for this week’s work. You get evidence of progress — not streaks, badges, or a wall of skill codes. More for parents on How it works.

Is the free check a real AMC 8 exam?

No — and that is intentional. It is a short ApexGraf contest diagnostic, designed around the core ideas and problem types tested on AMC 8, not a copy of an official exam. It ends with a plain-English gap report for parents: what is strong, what is shaky. Try it: free contest diagnostic.

Longer timed mocks that feel closer to the real contest happen later in the program, after you have started. How we use the check to set the first plan is on How it works.

How do we get started?
